Ocean to Bay Trail

The Newport Parks and Recreation Department was awarded a grant from the Recreation Trails Program to construct a recreational trail in north Newport.  This is the first phase of the Ocean to Bay Trail, which is identified in the Park System Master Plan.

The trail begins near Big Creek Park and follows the basic path of Big Creek, ending at the tunnel under Highway 101 at Agate Beach Wayside.  The nearly 4,000 foot trail includes a series of boardwalks which cross identified wetland areas, with the remaining trail surface being hard packed gravel or natural materials.  Interpretive features are also being planned for future installation.
