Tennis lessons are again being offered through a partnership with the Salishan Tennis Center staff. Lee Boles, the new Director of Tennis at Salishan, has over 25 years of tennis background and instruction. Lee and his staff are enthusiastic about helping with our summer tennis lesson program.
Classes will be taught at the Frank Wade Park tennis courts, and are geared towards the beginning player, the player who may need a refresher course in the basics, or the player who may need to make some tennis friends.
Pee Wee students will meet twice per week and Juniors (JT) will meet three times per week. The Tuesday and Thursday classes will be divided into age groups, and will focus on “how to HIT.” This will emphasize basic techniques of stroke production for ground strokes, volleys and serve.
The Friday Junior Team portion will stress “how to PLAY.” Students will learn rules of match play, strategies, etiquette, and sportsmanship.
All classes require a minimum of 4 students.

6th,
7th, and 8th Grade Youth Volleyball League
Wednesday and Saturday games beginning mid-September
Registration begins September 4 at the Newport Recreation Center
* Registration
Deadline: September 12 at 5:00 p.m. $45 per player
Mandatory parent meeting September 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the Recreation Center
6th/7th Grade league stresses fundamentals rather than winning. Games will have score limits. Skills development, team concepts, and on-court experience will be stressed, but will not be the final determination in playing time for each player. As much as possible, during the regular season games, players will be subbed-in and out equally. Ultimately, the number one goal of this league is fun.
8th grade league is a competitive league, in preparation for High School. However, winning will not be stressed as the only goal. As much as possible, during the regular season games, players will be subbed in and out equally.
* There will be a maximum of 12 players per team.
Newport Swim Team
